Home Sweet Home!

When Steven Pitre came to an orientation at NHS – Northshore in July of 2009, little did he realize that in less than a year, he would live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1500 square foot house with mortgage payments he could afford.   Because Mr. Pitre went to an Act of Sale with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in May of 2010, he was able to apply for (and receive!) the $8,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers.

 “The biggest hurdle was moving into the house…the process was easy,” says Pitre.  He continues, “Kevin handled my credit counseling and packaged my loan application.  He gave me all of the info that I needed.   I also took the Homebuyer Training classes at NHS from Theata, and that was very helpful, too.  Then the USDA was real quick, took care of everything, got it done fast.  They didn’t waste any time!”

Pitre was able to use the USDA 502 Direct Loan to have a home built on property that he owned in Mandeville, Louisiana.  For more information on the 502 Direct Loan, see below.

It's a SNAP!

“I appreciate the SNAP grant that I received through NHS and Whitney Bank. The staff from NHS was always courtious, informative and pleasant to speak with.  I simply love my new bathroom,” says Ms. Marsha May of Washington Parish, a Special Needs Assistance Program (SNAP) recipient.  Ms. May is one of 4 customers receiving a SNAP grant of $5,000 for much-needed home repairs.  Our thanks go to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, and Whitney Bank for providing the grant opportunity.  Other SNAP recipients are Christine Bradford, Rita Hossley and Rose Magee.
